Chapter 1
So boring! Why did I have to attend school? Oh, yeah to learn. It's not so much about the learning but the people at the school. Actually it's not even their fault. The only reason I am whining is because Jacob Black doesn't go to this school. He didn't go to Forks Highschool. Mom had said that once Jacob graduated I wouldn't have to go to school. I think the reason why I wouldn't have to go to school next year is because I wouldn't be 18. It had taken only a few years for me to get to my permanent 17 years old age. Next year I would stand out because I would still be 17 so my family and I were to "move". This was my first year at Forks High school because I grew to fast before to be able to stay in one grade for very long. I was taught all I needed to know before by Carlisle and Dad.
"And so that is how you compound these two element." Until then I was stuck with Forks Highschool and all it's teachers.
Ring!
Yes, I can leave now! I glided across the room faster then anyone else and was the first to arrive at the parking lot. I slid into my red Volvo, jumping with excitement. Not only for Jacob but for my whole family. Father (Edward), Mother (Bella), Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, Emmet, Alice, Jasper and my second family Jacob, Quil, Claire, Sam, Emily, Paul, Rachel, Embry, Jared and the rest of the Quileutes.
I swerved onto the highway, dodging traffic and going at about 70 miles per hour. In a short amount of time I was turning into my 3mile driveway. I pulled up into the garage and saw a yellow Porsche, silver Harley motorcycle, silver jeep, red BMW, and black Mercedes. There was one open spot that usually held a silver volvo. Where was Dad?
My Aunt, Alice, waited perched on the hood of her yellow Porsche.
"Hey, Alice," I called as I walked towards her.
"Hello, Nessie. You're wondering where Edward is, aren't you?"
"Yeah..."
"Don't worry-Edward is picking out a new car for your Mother. She broke it this morning."
"How did she break it?"
"Well, she got angry... everything is okay now so you don't need to worry."
"Oh, okay. Thanks Alice."
"Don't mention it."
I trotted into the house, excited to see the rest of my family.
Once inside everything seemed in place, me with my beloved family. All of them were inside except for Dad, Mom, and Alice, who was still in the garage doing something, of course.
The garage door lead into the kitchen. Sitting on the counter was Rosalie. Standing next to her was Emmet, his arm around her waist. On the other side of the counter was Carlisle, his arm around Esme beside him. Then my eyes laid on Jasper who was walking toward the door I had just came through. Probably going to see Alice. Finally, my eyes landed on Jacob. He gave me his famous bright smile and walked over to me. And, of course, then gave me the biggest bear hug possible.
"Hey, Nessie," he said.
" Hi," I said.
He released me from his hug but slide one arm down to my waist.
"Hey, everyone," I said to the big group in front of me.
Alice had come back with Jasper a few steps behind.
My head and the rest of my family's turned when we heard the purr of two cars drive into the garage. I sprinted to the garage, Jacob trailing behind his arm still around me. If I went the fastest I could go Jacob wouldn't be able to keep up and the would lead to sadness for me and him.
I amerged into the garage, going up on my tiptoes to see where my parents were in the huge garage. Finally, I spotted an bronze head come up.
Dad!
I ran to him, this time Jacob didn't follow. I looked back at him. He still stood by the door. I looked at him questioningly but all he did was urge me forward. So I turned back and continued my way towards Dad.
"Dad," I yelled.
He turned around and smiled.
" Hello, Nessie. How was school?"
I rolled my eyes at him. He knew school wasn't my favorite thing in the world.
"Great," I replied.
"Awesome," he smiled.
Suddenly someone from behind me hugged me.
"Hi, Nessie," my mom told me.
"Hi, mom," I turned around so that I was facing her.
"Is Jacob here," she said, looking around.
She knew Jacob never left my side unless it was for my better health.
"Yeah he's over by..."
I trailed of noticing that Jacob wasn't by the door anymore.
"Right here," said a musky voice behind all of us.
I whipped around only to bump into giant Jake. Dad growled.
"Dad!"
"Keep your hands to yourself," he hissed at Jake.
"Edward, it's okay," my mom soothed him.
"Yeah, Dad, it was an accident."
All my dad did was glare at him as he slowly turned and went inside the house.
There was a long gap of silence.
"So...Bella what kind of car did you get," Jacob asked.
"Well, Edward tried to get me into this one car but... it was way too complicated. So I just got another Ferrari."
"Bella," someone hissed from inside the house.
My mom smiled small in our direction then left to go inside.
"I thought he got over the imprint thing," Jacob wondered as we walked back inside.
"Ummm... Jake I don't think going inside now is the best thing to do."
"Oh, yeah!"
"Lets go out this way," I told him as I pointed to the door on the other side of the garage.
"Where does it lead to?"
"The backyard."
We walked outside and headed towards the river. We sat on a huge rock (big enough to hold me and Jacob) that was far enough from the house that they couldn't spy on us.
Jake reached for my hand and took it with no signal. At that moment I realized that Jake's hand felt normal to me. But I was not the regular human... or vampire. My skin was warmer then most people and so was Jacob's I wonder what it felt like to touch Jake if you were a human...
We just sat there doing nothing. For someone else, this moment of silence would have been awkward. But not for me. I never felt awkward around Jake. I wonder...
"Hey Jake..."
"Yeah?"
"If you hadn't imprinted on me... Would you have liked me?"
"I don't know. Your easy to like."
Suddenly his whole face grew sullen.
"What?"
He looked up at me and considered whether or not he should tell me.
"Well..."
But of course he couldn't resist giving me what I wanted.
"Before I met you... I... After you were born Rosalie," he said her name distgustingly.
"Keep going," I urged him.
"Well Rosalie took you downstairs, leaving Edward and me to fend for ourselves. Actually to leave Bella to fend for herself. You see your birth was very... Different."
That didn't surprise me. Everything about me was different.
"So Bella was dying and I gave up. Edward didn't. That's the reason she is alive today."
I tried to imagine my life without my loving mother. I shuddered.
"I felt a pull coming from downstairs. I didn't know it was because I had imprinted on you. I thought it was because... Anyway I went downstairs planning to... to... to kill you."
His head drooped down, sad. I didn't like it when he was sad.
"I don't mind."
He looked up, not believing me.
"Really! You didn't know me. You thought I had killed your best friend."
He straitened up. Clearly he was happy again.
"Thank you. For forgiving me."
I had never seen Jake like this. He always seemed to be radiating happiness. I quickly thought something to say so that he would forget everything we just said.
"Hey, do you want to go take a walk?" I asked him.
"Ummm...," he looked at me, debating.
All I did was look at him.
Suddenly he smiled. He was back!
"What?" I couldn't help the smile that developed onto my face.
He swiftly picked me up and swung me around. I didn't even get a chance to ask what he was doing. He ran into the woods and dropped me by a huge pine tree. He walked a few steps back, his eyes on me the whole time.
"What..." I said as I took a step closer to him.
He suddenly... well I don't know how to explain this so lets just say he shifted into a wolf.
I jumped up in surprise as he jolted toward me, swooping me up onto his back. This is one of the things I love about having a shapeshifter as a friend. I loved to ride on his back as he leaped ahead. Of course that's not the nly reason I liked him.
Abruptly, he stopped.
A normal human would have fell forward with the sudden change of speed. But, I'm not human. At least not completely human.
He looked up at me, signaling I had to get off. I slid off and backed up a few steps. He came to me and rested his head on my stomach. Then, he pushed. I didn't expect that push so I fell back a few steps but didn't fall. He looked at me apologetically. He trotted back to where we were and started to scratch it. Eventually the tree fell and left a trunk, a jegged trunk. Again he started to scratch. But, this time the jagged trunk. He continued to do this until it was smooth... at least smooth enough. He, then, laid down in front of the stump. I had a feeling I was to sit on the stump.
I walked toward the crooked stump and sat down. Jake nudged my knee softly. My hand fell down to his head and I started to slowly caress him. I started to slowly close my eyes. As soon as I found out that I was closing my eyes, I blinked rapidly to wake my self up. That's when I noticed that I was tired. I yawned. Jake nudged me again. I looked down to see what he wanted. He started to pat the ground. I slid off the stump and went on my knees. He carefully pushed me so that I lay my head on his soft, furry pillow of a stomach. Without noticing, I slowly drifted off to sleep...
